Klee Pyro DPS Build

Are you looking for the best build for your main DPS Klee? If so, you came to the right place.

In this post, we’ll talk about how to build Klee as your main Pyro DPS. We’ll tackle the best and alternative weapons you can use, artifacts main stats, sub stats and some gameplay tips when using her as your main attacker.

I highly recommend checking out Klee’s best team comp guide and using it in tandem with this build guide.

Klee’s Pyro DPS Weapon Choices

Klee equipped with the lost prayer to the sacred winds catalyst weapon.

When trying to develop a good build for a main DPS Klee, weapon selection is one of the few things you should consider.

There are a lot of good catalyst weapons that you can use for Klee. But ultimately, we think the Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds is the best due to how good the Critical Rate stat is during the end game.

But if you don’t have it, there are still some good 4-star alternatives and any 5-star catalyst weapon you have will perform just fine.

– Attack bonus maxed at 5 stacks and each stacks can only trigger once every 0.3 seconds.

– While protected by a shield, the Attack increase effect is increased by 100%.

The Memory of Dust can outperform any other catalyst weapon if we’re only looking at the damage potential.

However, it will require a character that generates a shield to get the best out of the weapon. Therefore, I consider this a weapon for a specialized Klee team comp.

On the other hand, Skyward Atlas has the highest base attack and has a better weapon effect than the Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds.

However, its primary stat boosts the Attack Percentage and will have a diminishing effect once you have some good artifacts.

While the Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds’ weapon effect is not as good as the other 5-star catalyst weapon, it makes up for it with a high Critical Rate stat.

With this weapon, you can get a Critical Damage main stat circlet for better stat distribution.

Solar Pearl takes the top spot for the best 4-star alternative weapon for Klee. I mentioned this before, but the critical rate stat is good once you get your end-game artifacts.

It also has a beneficial weapon effect that will help boost many of Klee’s attack patterns. And if you’re a light spender, you have somewhat of an assurance that you can refine it to R5 through the Battle Pass.

The Widsith takes the second spot due to its fantastic weapon effect. The downside is, it is random, which makes it somewhat unreliable.

Its main stat is also insanely good as well since it boosts the Critical Damage stat.

A lot of players regard critical damage as the holy grail of stats in Genshin Impact. But I beg to differ. It comes down to the stat distribution of your artifacts.

A super high critical damage stat is impractical if you can’t generate a critical hit in the first place.

And I made a test comparing the two stats, but that is for a different article. I’ll be linking to that article once it’s done.

For now, let’s just say that I’d rather have a high critical rate stat with a low critical damage stat than the opposite.

Lastly, the third spot is taken by the Dodoco Tales catalyst weapon. I mean, the weapon’s name is practically made for Klee. So of course, it’ll make it to the top 3.

Kidding aside, one of Klee’s most significant assets is the high damage scaling of her charged attack. And this weapon enhances precisely that.

It also complements well with Klee’s passive talents. I’m talking specifically about her Pounding Surprise passive talent, which will give Klee a chance to generate Explosive Spark. This passive skill enhances Klee’s charged attack by 50%.

If you’re looking to take advantage of this passive talent, then you’ll have to constantly switch your attack pattern from regular and charged attacks often. And the Dodoco Tales weapon rewards you for doing that.

The only reason this weapon did not make it higher in the list is its attack percentage main stat. As mentioned earlier, this stat is not as good when you already have good artifacts.

Klee wearing the crimson witch of flames 4-piece set.

Any character can benefit a lot with the right artifact set bonus. For a main DPS Klee specifically, you want to equip her with artifacts that boost Pyro damage and its effect.

As such, here’s the recommended artifact for a Pyro DPS Klee:

Artifact SetSet Effects

4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames

2-piece Set Effect:
– Pyro Damage Bonus + 15%

4-piece Set Effects:
– Overloaded and Burning Damage + 40%
– Vaporize and Melt DMG + 15%.
– Using an Elemental Skill increases 2-Piece Set effects by 50% for 10 seconds.
– Max 3 stacks.

2-piece Gladiator’s Finale

2-piece Crimson Witch of Flames Set Effect:
– Pyro Damage Bonus + 15%

+

2-piece Gladiator’s Finale:
– Attack + 18%

While Klee cannot utilize the three stacks effect of the 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames unless you equip the Sacrificial Fragment catalyst weapon, it is still the best set you can equip for her.

It will boost her Pyro damage by up to 22.5%. It will also increase any Pyro-related elemental reactions, making this a stable set for Klee. This effect is excellent, especially if you run a melt or vaporize team comp.

Alternatively, you can choose to equip her with the 2-piece Crimson Witch of Flames and 2-piece Gladiator’s Finale. It will help Klee do consistent damage, but I recommend going this route if you don’t have good stats for the Crimson Witch artifact.

The 4-piece Lavawalker set is also great. However, this set only performs its best on some niched Klee team comp.

Critical Rate or Critical Damage

As with any main DPS character, you want to get as much Critical Rate and Critical Damage on your sub-stat. I would recommend putting priority over Critical Rate above anything else.

Check out my article about Crit Rate vs. Crit Damage to know why.

Going with an Attack Percentage main stat for your hourglass slot will do better than an elemental mastery main stat.

While Elemental Mastery is especially great for a Melt or Vaporize team comp, elemental reactions have an innate cooldown. So boosting your attack will help you get consistent damage in most situations.

For the Goblet, you want to get a main stat with the Pyro Damage bonus. Unfortunately, this is pretty difficult to obtain. So I suggest equipping a Goblet with this main stat, even if it’s not Crimson Witch.

You can either get the Crit Rate or Crit Damage main stat for the circlet, depending on your character’s current stat. I would suggest getting to at least 70% Critical Rate if you want to do consistent damage.

This crit rate ratio is beneficial for a Pyro DPS Klee Build because her elemental skill and burst do multiple hits. Getting a good number of critical hits per skill usage will boost your DPS more than getting higher critical damage at a lesser rate.

You don’t have to be picky when it comes to your early game artifacts.

I only listed the artifact above because the Gladiator and Berserker set are the best artifact set you can get early on.

What’s more important here is you upgrade them as much as you can. And don’t worry because you can also use these upgraded artifacts as materials to upgrade your 5-star artifacts later on.

You can follow the recommended main stat I listed earlier regardless of the sub-stat. But if you can’t get main stats such as the Pyro Damage Bonus on Goblet or Critical Rate/Damage on circlet, an attack percentage main stat will do just fine.

The monsters you’ll encounter on the world map aren’t hard anyway. This difficulty setting applies even to the bosses you’ll occasionally fight during your main quest.

Leveling your character’s talent is the easiest way to boost damage. However, it can be pretty hard to obtain the materials as you get to higher levels.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to plan which skill you want to level up first to get the most out of each talent level.

Here’s the talent priority we recommend for Klee:

Talent NamePriorityTypeRecommend Max Level
Klee's normal attack - kaboom
Kaboom!
1st PriorityNormal AttackLevel 10
Klee's elemental burst - sparks n splash
Sparks ‘n’ Splash
2nd PriorityElemental BurstLevel 10
Klee's elemental burst - jumpy dumpty
Jumpy Dumpty
3rd PriorityElemental SkillLevel 9

We prioritized her normal attack talent due to the high damage scaling of Klee’s charged attack.

It will be a very different recommendation if you’re building Klee as a supporting character.

But considering the long cooldown time of her elemental skill, you’ll most likely do a lot of normal and charged attacks if you’re using her as your main DPS.

That said, we gave the lowest priority to the elemental skill due to its long cooldown time of 20 seconds. While it also does serious damage and generates multiple hits, its long cooldown time can lower your average DPS.

Granted that it starts with two charges, 20 seconds of downtime is still a lot, especially when taking on the game’s most challenging content, such as the Spiral Abyss.

On the other hand, her elemental burst has a 15 seconds cooldown and has a duration of 10 seconds. So, in theory, you can recast it every 5 seconds.

And although you need 60 energy to cast her elemental burst, it is pretty easy to charge if you have a battery character in your team.

And don’t forget that Klee’s Sparkling Burst passive talent regenerates the whole team with two energies for every critical hit resulting from her charged attack.

With this in mind, we recommend alternating your talent leveling to these priorities until you reach level 9.

All of Klee’s talent is good. So if you’re sure that you want to use her as your main DPS, maxing all her talent is not a bad idea.

But remember, Genshin Impact regularly releases new characters, so if you have even a hint of hesitation, I’d suggest leveling her talents up to level 9 only.

Tips for Playing Klee as the Main Pyro DPS

Klee using elemental burst.

Let me share some quick tips you can perform when playing Klee as your main Pyro DPS:

  • To maximize Klee’s charged attack, try to do 1 or 2 normal attacks before unleashing your charged attack.

The goal is to trigger the effects of her Pounding Surprise passive talent as much as you can so you can deal 50% more damage while also conserving stamina.

That said, use Klee’s charged attack as much as you can.

  • Utilize animation cancel moves to improve Klee’s DPS.

There are many ways to do this, but the easiest one is to press the Jump button as soon as Klee starts the charged attack animation.

Doing animation cancel moves will significantly reduce the delay and help you move into your next attack right away.

  • Klee has a passive talent that regenerates two energies whenever you use charged attack.

Top this with the elemental particles that you can get on the field when defeating enemies or through elemental skill, and you’ll find that getting that 60 energy requirement is pretty easy.

If you have a battery character in your team comp, it will be even faster.

Therefore, use Klee’s elemental burst as much as you can, and don’t be stingy about it.

  • Try to build your team around a vaporize or melt comp to maximize Klee’s damage.

Characters like Xingqiu, Mona, Rosaria or Diona will complement Klee the best.

Conclusion

When coming up with the best build for Klee, you should strike a balance between Critical Rate, Critical Damage, Attack and boost her Pyro elemental bonus as much as you can.

Pair this with good team composition, and you got yourself a main DPS that can crush even the hardest content of Genshin Impact.
